Camden and Islington Public Health are seeking to appoint an energetic, dynamic individual to lead on a number of innovative programmes within the Healthy Weight team. The post holder will manage several work streams in the context of food systems and obesity prevention across both boroughs. These will include but will not be limited to leading the development of food poverty working groups, initiation and ongoing development of wider food partnerships, designing and implementing food strategies, and leading a programme of activities to catalyse action on good food and business.

The successful applicant will be able to engage and motivate a wide range of stakeholders, have a strong grasp of how to identify levers and opportunities to influence change, and be confident in achieving outcomes through a partnership approach. They will ideally possess experience of influencing change within a complex system, either addressing obesity or other public health issues. They will be comfortable managing a variety of work streams with differing demands.

The post will support the equitable and evidence-based delivery of priorities set out by both Camden’s and Islington’s Health and Wellbeing Boards. Tackling obesity is recognised as a pressing public health priority at both a local and national level, with widespread impact on population health, health and social care, the economy, and health inequalities. The successful applicant will be responsible for progressing new and existing work to address obesity within the framework of a whole systems approach.

The candidate will bring a range of public health competencies to the department. They should be able to demonstrate: a relevant university degree or equivalent experience; a strong track record in developing, delivering and evaluating public health programmes; established leadership, communication, and project management skills; and good understanding of the public health statutory responsibilities of the local authority in relation to health improvement, health protection and supporting NHS commissioners around health care provision.
