Procurement and Supply Assistant

Islington’s Fairness Commission in 2010 established our approach to tackle inequality and poverty in the borough. The Commission’s vision was to make Islington a fairer place and somewhere where everyone, whatever their background, has the same opportunity to reach their potential and enjoy a good quality of life.  This vision is even more pertinent today, as we seek to recover from the crisis and build back better.  Boosting and locking-in wealth for all of our residents must be at the heart of rebuilding a Fairer Islington.  Strategic Procurement and Supply Assurance is absolutely at the heart of that vision.

We have a new and exciting Progressive Procurement Strategy 2020/27.  The strategy sets out the council’s approach to spending money and supply chain matters like commissioning and contract management.  The ambitious strategy will help the council to leverage its purchasing power, deliver more social value and build a genuinely inclusive economy.  Some highlights from the strategy are:

-delivering services in-house by default
-supporting local, small and VCSE organisations to bid for council contracts
-using our purchasing decisions and supply chain to deliver social value and -wider community wealth building objectives
-committing to a weighting of 20% for social value in procurement
-strengthening, improving and streamlining our processes
-working with our anchor institutions.

Strategic Procurement and Supply Assurance is looking to recruit 1x 12 month fixed term Procurement and Supply Assistant to join the existing team within the service.

The role is ideally suited to a person who likes to work with others, likes things to stay on-track, has good attention to detail and has solid computing skills.  The post holder must be adaptive and willing to work with others when needed, but also able to get on and work hard on their own.  The role links closely with helping the Council deliver its Progressive Procurement Strategy 2020/27 and achieving value for money.

Amongst other things, the role will require you to:

-complete assigned tasks in procurement and supply that support effective delivery of the service, including inputting, amending, approving, deleting etc. from specialist/non-specialist systems
-understand main cycles of procurement and supply, pointing individuals to the correct guidance and provide guidance on the different available options
-support relevant procurement and supply internal or external queries for goods, works and services, considering available option, referring complex or contentious matters to management
-identify and utilise the correct procurement and supply guidance, template, form or system needed for any stage in the process, recognising there may be numerous potential options to select from.
