The role of the Planning Policy Team Leader is pivotal in this process of using all available planning tools to secure a genuinely more sustainable place to live, work and visit. This is a unique job opportunity, which has arisen due to a long serving staff member leaving the council. We are looking for a high calibre planner who will continue the work of their predecessors and lead on responding to all new planning challenges facing the borough.

The review of the existing Local Plan is at an advanced stage, and we are working to a very ambitious timescale for adopting the revised Plan. In this post you will be leading on the preparation of the statutory Local Plan and Supplementary Planning Documents; assisting Development Management with the implementation of the new policies once adopted; leading on the neighbourhood planning work;  leading on devising effective local responses to the ongoing national planning reform; leading on the preparation of Article 4s Directions; advising senior management and elected Members on a range of planning policy issues; commissioning technical studies; and managing staff.       

We are looking for a dynamic, creative and hardworking individual, with extensive practical experience and expertise of fast-changing London and national planning policy, guidance and legislation. You will have strong leadership skills, extensive experience of planning policy development, as well as extensive experience of joint working across different technical disciplines and across complex organisations. 

The post holder will line-manage a number of staff within the Team and deputise for the Service Head from time to time. The post offers a friendly team environment, flexible working hours, generous annual leave and a pension scheme.
