The council’s Homeless Support Team provides a temporary accommodation service for households who have made a homeless application to the council, and who are temporarily accommodated in a wide range of housing schemes.
The team provides a comprehensive ’end to end’ service to clients, from the point clients are placed in temporary accommodation, to when they move on to permanent housing.
As Homeless Support Worker you would be responsible for liaising closely with clients to ensure their needs are met whilst in temporary accommodation, and ultimately resettle them into permanent accommodation.
You would deal with placements and sign ups, transfers, rent collection, and property visits to ensure repairs are carried out and health and safety standards maintained.
You would provide support to clients to help them maintain their temporary accommodation, help them apply for benefits, and signpost them to specific and targeted support services as appropriate.
You would work closely with the council’s Housing Options team, to make offers of suitable permanent social housing for clients, attend viewings, and assist clients to make applications for grant funding to furnish their properties.
Due to the departure of the current postholder, we are now looking to recruit an experienced and organised team member, who has a strong track record in working in a busy and challenging environment.
We are looking for an individual who has the ability to deliver an effective service, achieving excellent outcomes for servicer users.
You will have the ability to provide an effective income recovery service, maximising rental income for the council and ensuring clients are linked in with debt management and income maximisation services.
You will liaise daily with a wide range of internal council and external services regarding the placement and welfare of your clients.
You will need to have an understanding of temporary housing and homelessness, lettings, an ability to work under pressure, and have a proven record of excellent service delivery.
This role will require you to obtain an Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
