An exciting opportunity is available and open to solicitors and barristers to join Islington Legal Services, a proactive forward thinking legal service, at the cutting edge of various legal initiatives and at the heart of natural justice.
We are seeking a knowledgeable and creative thinking lawyer, who wants to help us make a difference, as we are deeply committed to improvement and great customer service.
The Council offers many excellent employee benefits including access to a pension scheme, childcare vouchers, generous annual leave, flexible working arrangements, all in addition to working in a friendly and supportive work environment.
We are seeking applicants with at four years’ post qualification experience to manage the Contracts Team. This is an opportunity to join a team of committed lawyers dealing with a wide range of contract, commercial and procurement matters. You will be responsible for a number of major procurement projects.
Applicants will need to have a thorough knowledge of contract and procurement law together with a good knowledge of administrative law and decision making processes (ideally in a Local Government context – although this is not essential). Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have the experience and confidence to advise senior managers and councillors on complex contract and procurement issues.
You must be organised and be able to work under pressure with minimal supervision while being a valuable team player and be able to manage conflicting priorities to deadlines. Applicants must also have excellent communication skills enabling them to build strong relationships with clients.
We are a busy in-house practice committed to the provision of high quality legal services to the Council.
Closing date: Sunday, 2nd February 2020
Proposed Interview date: Tuesday 11th February 2020

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. However, non-EEA candidates may not be appointed to a post if a suitably qualified, experienced and skilled EU/EEA candidate is available to take up the post as the employing body is unlikely, in these circumstances, to satisfy the resident labour market test. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
