Interview date

Public Health in Camden and Islington have come together to create a public health service that forms a key part of both Councils, and will lead the way in improving the health and wellbeing of both boroughs’ populations and reducing health inequalities.

We are seeking to appoint a Commissioning Officer to support and work with the commissioners responsible for sexual health, substance misuse, and smoking. The public health challenges of working to address the diverse needs of the populations across both boroughs are significant. As a commissioning officer, you will work with a range of partner organisations, and make an important contribution to the development of work to reduce health inequalities and improve the health and wellbeing of the local population.

The post-holder will work with the Senior Commissioning Manager and commissioning managers to support the development, implementation and monitoring of plans for commissioned services covering one or more of the following client groups and service types: sexual health, substance misuse and smoking. The post holder will also support the work on the development of public health policies, projects and programmes in liaison with colleagues and partner organisations. The post will support, as part of a wider team, the equitable, and evidence-based, delivery of priorities set out by both Camden’s and Islington’s Health and Wellbeing Boards.

You will bring a range of public health and commissioning competencies to the department. You should be able to demonstrate: strong communication, project management, general finance/budget skills and a good understanding of performance data.

* Please note: the post-holder will be employed by London Borough of Islington. However, he/she will be expected to work across both Camden (nearest station Kings Cross/St Pancras) and Islington (nearest station Highbury & Islington).

Applicant requirements

Applications from job seekers who require Tier 2 sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires employers to complete this test to show that no suitably qualified EEA or EU worker can fill the post. For further information please visit the UKVI website. From 6 April 2017, Tier 2 skilled worker applicants, applying for entry clearance into the UK, must present a criminal record certificate from each country they have resided continuously or cumulatively for 12 months or more in the past 10 years. Adult dependants (over 18 years old) will also be subject to this requirement. Guidance can be found here Criminal Records Checks for Overseas Applicants.
